Shira Epstein - violin

Shira Epstein was born in Tel Aviv in 1989 and started playing the violin at the age of 7. She attended the School of Arts and the Conservatoire of Music in Tel Aviv under Nava Milo and was granted scholarships of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and performed with several orchestras in Israel. At the age of eleven, Shira was given the chance to play for the legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman, who described her as "a real talent" and that same year was invited to Spain by the great violin master, Prof. Zakhar Bron for a series of lessons before attending the Keshet Eilon International Violin Mastercourse, being the youngest participant in the festival. In 2002, Shira was granted a scholarship to study at the Purcell School of Music in London and until 2005 studied under Prof. Yossi Zivoni. She currently studies under Dr. Felix Andrievsky. Shira took part in major courses and festivals, and gave concerts in Belgium, Spain, Germany, USA and Israel and is a graduate of Keshet Eilon International Violin Master Course. Shira also took part in masterclasses with artists such as Ilan Gronich, Vadim Gluzman, Miriam Fried, Lewis Kaplan, Shlomo Minz, Zakhar Bron, Itzhak Perlman, the Chilingirian Quartet and Ida Haendel amongst many others. This year Shira participated in Bromsgrove International Young Musicians Competition, being the youngest participant in the competition and reaching the semi-final, and in Marlow Music Festival, winning prizes in several UK competitions including Three Rivers Young Musician of the year and North London Music Festival. Shira regularly plays in concert on behalf of the Purcell School of Music and has recently appeared in London's Wigmore Hall and St John's Smith Square. In 2005 Shira formed the Epstein Trio together with her pianist and cellist brothers and since the trio is on great demand across the UK appearing in concerts for various music societies and international festivals and is supported by the Wingate Foundation. Shira is generously supported by the Philharmonia Orchestra/Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, having won several awards, and by the Musicians Benevolent Fund under the Young Talent Scheme. Shira has recently been granted a full scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music in London under Dr. Felix Andrievsky. Future engagements include concertos with the Barnet Symphony Orchestra amongst other recitals in the UK and the Far East. Shira plays on a Francesco Rugeri violin made in Cremona in 1687, kindly purchased for her by a private sponsor. |
